On February 5th, 2010, Sharp and Samsung reached a cross-licensing agreement, which finally ended this 2-year-long patent –infringement dispute.
Sharp suited Samsung claiming patent infringement of LCD-TV patent in August of 2007. Thereafter, Samsung filed two countersuits and requested an investigation by the United States International Trade Commission (USITC). In January, 2010, Sharp suited Samsung and required USITC to issue an injunction on importing and distributing of Samsung’s products in U.S.
This mutually beneficial arrangement gives broad access to patents owned by each other. Neither party is willing to disclose the details of the terms. But, according to the representative of Sharp, the term of the agreement is favorable to Sharp. This agreement also terminates all previous rulings made by the USITC.
